BOOK SUMMARY - ESSENTIAL ADVANCES

MICHELANGELO. SCULPTOR OF HIS SALVATION

BOOK SUMMARY - ESSENTIAL ADVANCES

The master readings into the life and work of Michelangelo were the Holy Scriptures, Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy," especially "Paradise" and Neoplatonic philosophy. The book has as its thematic axis the sculptures and drawing of the "Pietàs" (The Pities), through which, over the years, Michelangelo expresses his Neoplatonic, ascensional, salvific thought.
They are artistic expressions of his philosophical-theological thought, and the progressive conversion of his soul, key foundations of the aesthetics of the "very finished" and "unfinished" work of Michelangelo, a synthesis of his worldview that will reach its culmination in the dome of Saint Peter's.
Substantial contributions are made to the progress of the study of the work of Michelangelo:

  • Grounding of the constitutive aspects of the aesthetics of the very finished and the not finished in the works of Michelangelo.
  • The Neoplatonic philosophical ascensional, salvific thought expressed in "the "Pietà" and in the paintings, reliefs and sculptures of "The Virgin and Child Jesus" through the helicoidal movement, to ascension spiral, that impregnate these works, in their essential significance.
  • The colloquial characteristic of the sacred works of Michelangelo.
  • The singularity of "the Pietà Duomo" in the evolution of philosophical salvific thought that Michelangelo expressed in the "Pietà", true prayers- sculptural thoughts.
  • The true reason why Michelangelo breaks the "Pietà Duomo".
  • Foundation of the authorship of Michelangelo of "Pietà Palestrina", evolution of the ascensional salvific thought of man, artist, thinker and Christian. The "Pietàs" assume a vertical form.
  •  The faithful capture of the Neoplatonic worldview ascensional salvific in sacred works by Miguel Ángel, and the design cupuliforme the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, the fresco "The Last Judgment" and "The dome of St. Peter."
  • The analysis, valuation and revelation of true historical documents of the letters of Vittoria Colonna to Michelangelo and those of Michelangelo to Vittoria Colonna.
  • The interest of Michelangelo by astrology. In 1500, in Rome, he took mathematics and astronomy classes with Nicolaus Copernicus. In the course of the years the commentaries of the thought of Copernicus come to the Vatican. Michelangelo in the fresco "The Last Judgment" consecrates a synthesis of his heliocentric Christological thought, a work that predates the publication of the book of Copernicus, which was published in 1543.
  • The crowning importance of ascending salvific thought in the most modern work of all time which is the "Pietà Rondanini", in its second version: the present one. It is the most accomplished expression of the aesthetics of the unfinished in the work of Michelangelo.
The Son and Mother merged in a single ascensional breath, emerge from matter to the heavenly ascension, before the spectators of all times and latitudes.
    It is the Christian Resurrection.
Michelangelo rises, also he, with his mother Francisca, as well as asks  to Jesus Christ, in a poem of his, to be able to reach the salvation of his soul, before dying.
Supreme expression of the helical movement.
